How to make "Home Made Charcoal"

For those of you who know Bob, he makes everything for himself.  Well, he decided to begin producing his own charcoal after researching how to do it on the Internet.
First you get a 55 gallon drum and modify it to pipe the gas generated from within out and under the drum itself.  Then you pack it with Cedar and seal the lid.  Build a huge fire under and around it for an hour or so to get the wood inside out-gassing.  Once it is producing it's own gas, it is burned under the drum like a furnace.  You let it finish this self sustaining fire until it goes out.
Once out, it is ready for inspection.
Here is the completed process.
The charcoal is very easy to light, doesn't smoke, and burns a really long time in your BBQ pit.  We transfer it into 5 gallon buckets and take it home for use.
