A while back, our good friends the
Taylor's invited me to come by to see their property in the Hill Country.
Little did I know that Stonehenge was on the way... |
After leaving Stonehenge, one passes
Easter Island. Boy, I'm lost. |
Now we are at our property. We
'carved' out a spot for the camper on the edge of our property. |
We have a nice place to camp while
working on the place. |
Home away from home. |
We have already spent many hours by the
fire in the evening. |
On the back of the property it falls off
to a creek. |
The view from our 'sitting rock'. |
Here is a dam that holds
back a reservoir fed by artesian springs. |
However, the ground is so porous that the
water freely goes underground then back up when ever it feels like it. |
How about that reflection of where the
normal water level should be. |
One of the bluffs over the river. |
Another |
Many neat places to go exploring. |
This is a natural swimming pool formed by
blocking one of the many little streams heading for the river. |
Cool... |
There are many locals running about at
any given time. |
If you take the time to look down you may
even see the action on the ground. In this case, we have a couple of
Dung Beatles fighting over a freshly rolled horse deposit. |
Now we are getting to one of the main
attractions of the property. This is the private entrance for the
owners to the river. There are shelters with BBQ pits and seating over
a magnificent view. |
Just down stream a ways is the MO Ranch
and kids come up stream to the shallows shown below. |
We are swimming & wading upstream toward
the shallows |
Here the river has carved out of the rock
a veritable play land. |
Looking back to where we just came from. |
Looking upstream. Note Bob & Karen
enjoying the refreshing water. |
Ok, I can't stand it. I have to try
out one of the gullies carved into the rock. |
This is refreshing and I don't want to
leave. |
More views of the river - oops, how did
she get in the picture...??? |
Karen trying out the chute. Later
we found out that there is a tunnel under the big rock that you can pass
through!!! |
Great fun |
This is a fantastic place that convinced
me to explore buying into. SO WE DID!!! |
A fly fisherman on the river. |
This is a wooden dam just down the road. |
We parked at this low water crossing to
walk up the river a bit. |
Look what we found!!! |
There are so many beautiful dams all
around this area. |
This is The DAM just across The DAM Store
in Ingram. |
| |
We are very excited about getting the
change to buy property in this area. We will be scheduling many
camping trips there to begin clearing paths, a driveway, and a site for a
future house. Keep watching for more.... |
| Update 1/2007 |
This is at the end of a 'work day' at the
new place. The campers are now completely set up for stays without
having to bring anything but food & drink. Note the sign in the
close-up below. |
"The Riparian Retreat" was duly
christened. As you can see from the condition of the ladies, it was a
drizzly weekend and they didn't back away from the work a bit. We got
a tremendous area cleared and cleaned up this weekend. |
