Memorial Day Weekend - 2007

Well we decided to take a few extra days off and go to our property near Hunt for Memorial Day Weekend.

Thursday was nice weather and normal work like hanging property ID sign were in order.  Here Bob is hanging his sign on his driveway entrance.

The day was spent taking pictures and enjoying nature's finest...  Well it began to rain at about 9:00 PM and by 11 it was raining well over 2 inches per hour.  It didn't quit until about 7 AM the next day.
After the rain quit we went to explore the happenings...  This is the dam on our 'community' lake in the park.  Normally it doesn't run over the dam at all since there are leaks under the dam.  Here Bob & I are checking the flow.
Cool
We are talking about a lot of water here.
This creek is normally only a very small trickle across the bedrock or it may be completely dry.
This is a view from the left side of my place.
Zoomed in
Another shot of the creek bed
This is the road to the park where we get our water.  Normally the road may be a little wet from the springs flowing into it but never like this.  You certainly could not drive through it today.
This is a normally dry draw
There is a hole in the rock that we have seen many times and the water is running down in the hole here so Bob decides to go fishing....
I tried to 'slow down' the water to make it seem like it is flowing but that is hard with a digital camera.
There were lots of signs of the season along our walk that morning.
A cactus rose in full bloom.  This particular one was HUGE! ! !
Bob making some comment as usual...
After a long walk and some work, it is time to relax and break out the "Adult Beverages" and sit around the campfire.
Glen & Shirley showed up on Sunday and we took them on a whirlwind tour around the area.  Here we are in Luckenbach for a grand tour and some snacks.
Next, we are off to Sisterdale and the winery there for some tasting of fine wines.
The building is an old cotton gin.
Yes, we supported the local economy.
We went through Waring trying to get to Sisterdale - long story...  However, we found the General Store there where every Wednesday the locals bring their guitars and gather in the back bar for music and a party.
Karen strapped into the old vibrator like my mom had years ago and was shocked when it actually worked!!!
We gathered for a group shot taken by the owner.  He and his two teeth were quite proud of his closed sign so he turned it on for us...
Every time that we tried to get to Sisterdale another way, we met another flooded low water crossing.
This is a beautiful waterfall on Joshua Creek between Bourne and Kerrville.
Back to the camp for the evening meal preparations...
We had some great steaks, potatoes, and grilled corn on the cob.  Here Karen is trying to demonstrate to Glenn the 'proper' way to eat corn on the cob.
We had a surprise visitor just come marching through camp the next morning during breakfast.
A side shot
And a full frontal
